The Importance of an Overnight Bag
If you are moving long-distance you will probably be tired when you arrive and in no shape to unpack everything on the spot.
Most people put a lot of effort into arranging all aspects of their move, and yet overlook one very important and very necessary item: An overnight bag.
Here are 3 steps to “create-your-own” overnight bag:
First, obviously, you need a bag. Most likely a duffel or suitcase, but any moderately sized travel bag will do just fine.
Second, you need to decide what to pack in your overnight bag. When determining what you want to bring, it might be helpful if you think of it as staying at a hotel for one night. A hotel with no beds, blankets, or room service, that is.
Here is a sample packing list:
- Change of Clothes (At least one per person.)
- Paper Plates
- Plastic Silverware
- Paper Napkins
- 1-2 Garbage Bags
- Toilet Paper (Extremely necessary, just think about it. Actually, don’t.)
- Bed Sheets & Blankets
- Toiletries (Toothbrush, toothpaste, makeup, etc.)
Third and finally, you should put the bag or bags (depending on the size of your family), into your car, NOT the moving van. And it would probably be a good idea to put the bag in last so it is easy to get out when you arrive at your new home.
Moving isn’t easy. But if you prepare a well-packed overnight bag, the first night in your new home can be refreshing, worry-free, and leave you energized for unpacking the next day.
